Company Description

Our client partners with universities to create and manage online education programs. They work with multiple university partners, each with their own brand guidelines and requirements, creating web experiences that attract and engage potential students.

Type: Contract/Freelance
Hours: 15 hours per week 
Duration: Initial 3-month contract with strong potential for extension through end of year
Schedule: Flexible, but ideally available in the afternoons on 2-3 days/week 
Rate: $50/hr

Job Description

We're seeking a Jr. Web Designer to help clear our creative backlog and free up our senior designers to focus on high-level strategic work. This role is perfect for someone who excels at production design work and wants to be embedded within a collaborative creative team while working autonomously on assigned tasks.

Primary Responsibilities

Production Design (75% of work):

• Resize and adapt existing banner designs across multiple variants
• Create social media posts for various university partners
• Update existing web assets and marketing materials
• Handle partner adjustment requests (PARs) for time-sensitive site updates

Graphic Design Projects:

• Design infographics for SEO articles
• Create print materials including event flyers and promotional pieces
• Develop downloadable PDFs and marketing collateral
• Design email marketing assets using WYSIWYG builders

Web Updates & Maintenance:

• Make basic WordPress site updates while maintaining div and page structure
• Perform light HTML/CSS edits (minimal coding required)
• Handle emergency fixes when team members break site elements
• Update content across multiple university partner sites following brand guidelines

Qualifications

Design Skills:

• Proficiency in standard design software (Adobe Creative Suite preferred)
• Strong eye for layout, typography, and visual hierarchy
• Experience with web design best practices
• Portfolio demonstrating clean, professional design work

Technical Requirements:

• Basic HTML/CSS knowledge (light editing level)
• WordPress familiarity & experience 
• Understanding of responsive design principles
• Experience with email marketing platforms (builder/WYSIWYG tools)

Soft Skills:

• Ability to work autonomously while staying connected to team
• Strong attention to detail and brand guideline adherence
• Excellent time management for handling multiple projects
• Quick learner who can adapt to different university brand standards

Preferred Experience

• Email marketing design experience
• Production design background
• Experience working with multiple brand guidelines
• Familiarity with project management tools (Trello/similar)
• Previous agency or in-house marketing team experience

Additional Information

Working Structure

• Report directly to Creative Director
• Participate in bi-weekly team meetings and Slack standups
• Work autonomously on assigned backlog items
• Collaborate with senior designers and PM when needed
• Review process for creative projects requiring design input
