This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Combat Designer in the United States.

We are seeking a creative and technically skilled Combat Designer to develop engaging combat systems and enemy interactions for single-player game experiences. In this role, you will design, implement, and iterate on gameplay features while collaborating closely with programming, art, and design teams. You will balance and refine combat mechanics, ensure smooth player interactions, and contribute to a polished, high-quality product. This role combines technical scripting, visual design, and gameplay implementation to deliver immersive experiences. You will also participate in usability testing, focus tests, and in-house playtests to assess quality and inform design decisions. The position offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment on innovative game projects.

Accountabilities

  • Create clear and concise documentation, visual materials, and presentations that detail combat systems, mechanics, and enemy interactions.
  • Design and implement player combat interactions, working hands-on in game editors such as Unreal Engine or Unity.
  • Develop, balance, and adjust combat features and in-game assets to ensure smooth and engaging gameplay.
  • Collaborate with gameplay programming and other teams to implement game structure and deliver content on schedule.
  • Track progress and provide updates on missions or features, addressing bugs and gameplay issues to maintain product stability.
  • Conduct usability testing, focus tests, and playtests to evaluate quality, user experience, and engagement.
  • Provide constructive feedback across disciplines to improve product quality and plan for future projects.


Requirements
  • Intermediate knowledge of level editing tools and scripting in Unreal Engine, Unity, or similar editors.
  • Experience with 3D modeling programs such as Maya; familiarity with Houdini is a plus.
  • Experience with technical scripting (Blueprints, Python, or similar) and hands-on gameplay implementation.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, to collaborate effectively with team members and developers.
  • Experience with gameplay testing, balancing, and iterative design processes.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
